Location of University College Cork
The MA Philosophy helps students to advance their general philosophical education while at the same time giving them the opportunity to pursue their own philosophical interest.
Students choose two MA modules from a range of options, which are taught during October-December. They prepare a directed literature review, in preparation for their minor dissertation, in January-April. Finally, they write a minor dissertation on a subject of their choice during the period May-September.
The Learning Objectives of this MA programme are:
* Students will apply and critique fundamental concepts, methods and vocabulary of philosophical discourse, research and writing.
* Students will be familiar with and assess critically two philosophical research areas of their choice in reading and seminar discussion.
* Students will complete a Literature and Minor Dissertation on a topic of their choice.
Contents
In Part 1 students take modules to the value of 50 credits and prepare a Literature Review to the value of 10 credits, under the supervision of a member of staff, for submission on or before April 30th. In Part II students complete a minor disseration (maximum 15,000 words) to the value of 30 credits which must be submitted for the examination at the Winter Examination Board.
Students take 90 credits as follows:
Part I

* PH6014 Philosophy of Mind (10 credits)
* PH6015 Global Justice (10 credits)
* PH6017 Hegel and the 19th Century (10 credits)
* PH6018 East West Comparative Negative Ethics (10 credits)
* PH6021 East Asian Aesthetics (10 credits)
* PH6022 Philosophies of Nature: East and West (10 credits)
* PH6023 Western Aesthetics (10 credits)
* PH6024 Perception, Experience, Consciousness (10 credits)
* PH6025 Feminist Philosophy and Social Theory (10 credits)
Part II
* PH6020 Minor Dissertation (30 credits)
Postgraduate Certificate in Philosophy
Students who pass taught modules to the value of at least 30 credits (but less than 60 credits) and who do not wish to complete the programme, or fail to complete the programme, may opt to exit the programme and be conferred with a Postgraduate Certificate in Philosophy.
Postgraduate Diploma in PhilosophyStudents who pass taught modules to the value of at least 60 credits and do not wish to complete the minor dissertation, or who fail the dissertation, may opt to exit the programme and be conferred with a Postgraduate Diploma in Philosophy.
IELTS
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Candidates will normally hold at least a Second Class Honours/Grade I primary degree (or equivalent) in philosophy. Students with degrees in cognate areas (such as social sciences, psychology, theology etc.) may be considered. Applicants who are not fully qualified may need to take a MA Qualifying Degree or Higher Diploma in Arts.
The Additional/Supplementary Statement form MUST also be completed as part of the application selection process.
English Language Requirements:

Part-Time Taught Postgraduate Programmes
