The aim of this programme is to provide students, from a range of different professional backgrounds, academic and experiential development in the theory and practice of Public Health. It allows students, if they wish, to focus on a selection of sub-specialties of Public Health.

As part of this programme students who complete the required modules can now also exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health with Specialism in Health Protection (Infection Control) This Postgraduate Diploma has received An Bord Altranais approval.
Contents
In Part Ia students take core modules to the value of 30 credits. In Part Ib students choose one of the Pathways and undertake modules to the value of 30 credits (Pathways 1 and 2) or 20 credits (Pathway 3). In Part II students research and write a dissertation to the value of 30 credits (Pathways 1 and 2) or 40 credits (Pathway 3).

Part Ia
Core Modules - All Pathways Students take 30 credits as follows:
* EH6025 Principles and Practice of Public Health (10 credits)
* EH6026 Applied Research for Public Health (10 credits)
* EH6027 Public Health Informatics (5 credits)
* EH6028 Leadership in Public Health (5 credits)
Part Ib Pathway 1: Health Promotion
Students take 30 credits as follows:
* AP6039 Public Health Psychology (5 credits)
* EH6029 Health Promotions: Concepts, Principles and Practice (10 credits)
* EH6032 Environment and Health (5 credits)
* EH6035 Practice Portfolio (5 credits)
* SS6017 Critical Social Science Perspectives on Public Health (5 credits)
Pathway 2: Health Protection
Students take 30 credits as follows:
* EH6019 The Principles and Practices of Multi-disciplinary Health Protection (10 credits)
* EH6035 Practice Portfolio (5 credits)
* MB6000 Microbiology for Health Protection (5 credits)
plus10 credits from the following:
* EH6020 The Global Burden of Communicable Diseases (5 credits)
* EH6032 Environment and Health (5 credits)
* NU6003 Infection Control: Theories, Modules and Management (5 credits)
Pathway 3: Epidemiology
Students take 20 credits as follows:
* EH6031 Advanced Epidemiology (10 credits)
* ST6011 Advanced Biostatistics (5 credits)
* ST6012 Survival Analysis (5 credits)
Part II
Pathways1 and 2
* EH6040 Minor Thesis in Public Health and Epidemiology (30 credits).
Pathway3 :
* EH6050 Minor Thesis in Epidemiology (40 credits).

Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health
Upon successful completion and passing of core modules to the value of 30 credits, students may opt to exit the programme and be conferred with a Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health. A student who subsequently applies to continue to Master's level must do so within 5 years from the date of successful completion of the Certificate Examinations and must have obtained a grade of 50% or higher in the core modules in term 1.
Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health
Upon successful completion and passing of core modules to the value of 30 credits and modules in the chosen pathway to the value of 30 credits, students may opt to exit the programme and be conferred with a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health. A student who subsequently applies to continue to Master's level must do so within 5 years from the date of successful completion of the Certificate Examination.
Note: For students not wishing to proceed to the thesis and opting to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health - Epidemiology Pathway - i.e. students not completing the Minor Thesis in Epidemiology (EH6050) must complete an alternative module to the value of 10 credits from one of the other pathways.
Individual Modules
As part of UCC's commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), healthcare professionals may take a one-off module and be provided with a relevant transcript of marks.
IELTS
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Prospective students must satisfy the following:
* Students accepted on the course would normally be expected to hold an Honours primary degree in a relevant subject (minimum Second Class Honours) or an Honours primary degree in any discipline (minimum Second Class Honours) and either possess a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field or show evidence of at least two years work experience in a relevant field;
* include with application form a sample of their own written work;
* satisfy an interview board.
Applicants should indicate on their application form their reasons for wishing to enter this programme and will be required to discuss these at interview.
Note: In exceptional circumstances, applicants without a primary degree may be recommended for entry to the programme following a review of their individual qualifications and experience by the course committee. Admission of such applicants will be subject to the approval of the College of Medicine and Health Executive Committee.
This programme will commence on the 1st September 2011. There will also be a welcome meeting on the evening of August 31st 2011.
