Location of University College Cork

The MSc (Nursing Studies) is an 18 month part-time taught programme running from the date of first registration for the programme.

Students take 90 Credits as follows:

Year 1
* NU6005 Research Methods (10 credits)

* NU6070 Practice Enhancement for Nursing (10 credits)

* NU6074 Nursing & Midwifery Management and Development (10 credits)

* NU6076 Evidence Based Nursing and Midwifery Practice (10 credits)

* NU6019 Person Centred Care (10 credits)

* NU6075 Innovations in Clinical Practice (10 credits)

Year 2
* NU6015 Advanced Research Methods (10 credits)

* NU6073 Dissertation (20 credits)

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Entry to the MSc (Nursing Studies) is contingent on the agreement of the College of Medicine and Health and Academic Board, on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Entry to Year 1Entry to Year 1 of the MSc (Nursing Studies) may be offered on a cyclical basis. Applicants should seek clarification from the School of Nursing and Midwifery as to when the next entry point will occur. It may be necessary to defer entry until the next intake date for Year 1. Year 1 applicants must apply through course code CKX08.

Applicants for the MSc (Nursing Studies) should normally:

* have a minimum of an honours primary degree in Nursing, Midwifery or equivalent qualification approved by the College of Medicine and Health; and
* hold professional registration with An Bord Altranais or be eligible for such registration and
* be engaged in Nursing Practice (for a minimum of 18.5 hours per week)
* provide evidence of proficiency in the English language (score 6.5 or greater in IELTS or equivalent).

Direct Entry to Year 2 (Clinical Practice Pathway)Entry to Year 2 of the MSc (Nursing Studies) Clinical Practice Pathway may be offered on a cyclical basis. Applicants should seek clarification from the School of Nursing and Midwifery as to when the next entry point will occur. It may be necessary to defer entry until the next intake date for Year 2. Year 2 applicants must apply through course code CKX13.

The following applicants are eligibile to apply for entry to Year 2:

1. Applicants who have completed a Higher Diploma/Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery or Public Health Nursing;

2. Applicants who have completed (but who have not yet been conferred with) a Higher Diploma/Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery or Public Health Nursing. Such applicants should fulfil one of the following criteria

Applicants who hold an honours primary degree in Nursing, Midwifery or equivalent must normally achieve a pass in the Higher Diploma/Postgraduate Diploma examination

OR

Applicants who do not hold an honours primary degree in Nursing, Midwifery or equivalent must normally:

(i) achieve a minimum of 65% in the overall Higher Diploma/Postgraduate Diploma Examination;

or

(ii) achieve a minimum of 65% in the research assessment element of the programm.

Please note that if an applicant is successful in gaining a place, and is unable to register in that year, deferrals are not permitted. Students are however welcome to reapply, and the previous cancellation will not affect their UCC application the following year.

TWO YEAR RULE
Students of Nursing must pass/progress within two academic years of first registration for each year of the programme, otherwise they cannot continue in the programme. After failing a re-sit examination, students may be allowed to repeat the year. Any individual year can be repeated only once, however, a maximum of two failed years may be repeated during a student's programme of studies. Thus, students must complete their studies ordinarily within four years of registering for the MSc (Nursing Studies) programme.

English Language Requirements:
IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL equivalent

Part-Time Taught Postgraduate Programmes
Please note that non-EU applicants are not eligible to study part-time programmes
