The programme content is designed to provide the knowledge and skills required to become an efficient manager by equipping students with a holistic production perspective involving:

* Basic understanding of various dimensions and functions of the broad field of production.
* Analytical skills needed to tackle the ever-changing problems and situations of modern competitive production
* Conceptual and reasoning skills with appropriate decision support methods and tools used in production management
* Communication and presentation skills necessary for leadership positions. The programme will provide the learning base on which competence for a professional engineering career can be constructed.

For most countries manufacturing is the most significant activity for a nation´s wealth-creation and overall prosperity. Graduates from our programme may find positions as production engineers and managers in many production field in different countries.

Contents

The entire programme structure is composed of four different, but intimately related, competence modules namely: Manufacturing Technology, Production Management, Integrated Product, Process and System Design. Due attention has been paid to the innovative integration and balance of the engineering and management contents of the programme, while maintaining its industrial relevance. The engineering aspect of the programme encompasses topics in product realization process and operations while the managerial aspect covers systematic decision making, operations strategy, planning, control and management of resources during development and operations of manufacturing systems.

Degree project

Topics for Degree projects are selected from the field of production and can be carried out with the department´s research groups or as cooperative projects with companies located in Sweden or abroad.

Requirements

General admission requirements
The general requirements are the same for all applicants to advanced level studies in Sweden.

1. Previous studies

A completed Bachelor's degree.

A completed Bachelor's degree, corresponding to a Swedish Bachelor's degree (180 ECTS), or equivalent academic qualifications from an internationally recognised university. The university has to be listed in the latest edition of the International Handbook of Universities. A Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering is required for most programmes at KTH.

2. Language requirements
Applicants must provide proof of their English language proficiency which is most commonly established through an internationally recognised test.

TOEFL

* Paper-based test: total result of 575 (written test, grade 4.5)
* Internet-based test: total result of 90 (written test, grade 20)

English test results from TOEFL should be sent directly from the ETS test centre to University Studies in Sweden (code 9520).

IELTS

* A minimum overall mark of 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic Training accepted)

* Minimum grade C.

Specific admission requirements
Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering area.

Selection process
The selection process for Production Engineering and Management is based on a total evaluation of the following selection criteria: university, GPA, course work related to the programme and work experience.

Required documents
All applications must be supported by documentation including Transcripts of Records, Degree certificate/Diploma, proof of English proficiency etc.

In addition, the following set of documents is required for the Master's programme in Production Engineering and Management:

* 2 letters of recommendation
* Certificate showing relevant work experience, if applicable
