Microelectronic design is characterised by the need for continuing education and training. Today, most microelectronic designers require more than is delivered in a conventional four-year programme in electronic engineering. The aim of the MEngSc (Microelectronic Design) programme is to provide advanced coursework with a research element, for engineers who are engaged in the development and realisation of integrated electronic systems.
The (Taught) MEngSc in Microelectronic Design shares the two components of the Higher Diploma in Microelectronic Design programme, the Coursework and Preliminary Research Project, but also includes a Minor Research Project.
Students take course modules to the value of 50 credits; carry out a Preliminary Research Project to the value of 10 credits and a 4 months Minor Research Project to the value of 30 credits. A course module (5 credits) contains 24 lecture hours and 12 laboratory hours.
Examples of topics covered include HDL Synthesis, VLSI Architectures, Advanced Data Converters, Frequency Synthesizers, Process and Device Modelling, VLSI Layout, ASIC Design, RF IC Design and Nanotechnology.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testBE (Microelectronic), BE (Electrical/Electronic), or equivalent engineering qualification, with a minimum grade 2H1.
