Master's Programme in Electrical Engineering in Aalto University School of Science and Technology invites young talented students with B.Sc. degree to apply for the Master’s Programme in Electrical Engineering to pursue the degree of Master of Science in Technology. The programme provides the most up to date knowledge of electrical engineering research and business. The programme qualifies its graduates to apply for doctoral studies.
The purpose of the programme is to provide students with a solid knowledge base needed for working in the power and energy industry, as well as in the electrical manufacturing industry.
Fields of application include power transmission and distribution, electrical machines and components, electrical drives and industrial and power electronics. Particularly important areas include engineering applications in vehicles, such as hybrid or electric cars, efficient use of electricity, including energy conservation and
clean energy applications. Focus is also put on sustainable power generation, like photovoltaic and wind power solutions.
Our graduates are able to work in a very broad spectrum of fields from energy companies to the electrical manufacturing industry and the automation industry, the ICT system business, and often also for governmental bodies promoting sustainable development.
The programme cooperates actively with several internationally recognised universities in the form of student exchange, common research projects and visiting lecturers. The programme is also closely linked with industry; its master´s theses are usually commissioned by companies.
The programme contains a general part which covers the main fields of electrical engineering. After the common core studies, students can specialise either in power systems, electrical motors and drives, ICT applications in power systems or illumination engineering. Students can also take a supporting module of economics or industrial management to enhance their managerial skills.
The two-year programme (120 ECTS) consists of six study modules:
* Basic Module in Electrical Engineering E1 (20 cr)
* Intermediate Module in Electrical Engineering E2 (20 cr)
* Advanced Module in the chosen specialisation E3 (20 cr)

Successful applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree from a university fulfilling the following requirements:
* The university must be an official and recognized part of the national education system.
* The university has to be found on an official list or in an international handbook that is completed by some international organization (e.g. UNESCO)
The applicants must hold a degree in the same or relevant field; the programme applied for will make the final decision on the suitability of the previous degree. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
* They should hold an international bachelor's degree or 3/5 of a master's degree completed
* They should hold a Finnish bachelor's degree; applicants who have studied at a Finnish university of applied sciences (AMK): the bachelor's degree must be in the same field you wish to pursue studies in at the School of Science and Technology
* Students in their final year of the bachelor's degree are eligible to apply, provided they complete their bachelor's degree by 31 July 2011. In such cases, the certificate must arrive at the Aalto University Admission Services no later than on 2 August 2011.
Please note that there are separate application procedures and also separate application deadlines for the Erasmus Mundus programmes.
Applicants studying at a university involved in an international co-operation network like the TIME Programme (Top Industrial Managers for Europe) have a simplified application procedure.
Applicants who fulfil the requirements are not guaranteed to be admitted, because admission to the programmes is limited.
Admitted students may be required to take complementary studies. Please note that the degree programme of Engineering Physics and Mathematics does not addmit students with a degree from a university of applied sciences.
Language requirements Successful applicants must have an excellent command of Finnish, Swedish or English. Please note that some degree programmes may require knowledge of Finnish.
All guest students and international students applying for master's or doctoral studies offered in English must demonstrate their proficiency in English. Applicants are required to attach an official language test report to their application. The test suitable for this purpose are (minimum requirements in brackets):
* IELTS (Score 6.5 or higher)
* TOEFL (Score 580/237/92 or higher)
