Course aims
The MA Applied Linguistics and TESOL course aims to provide professional development and training in applied linguistics appropriate to more experienced teachers of English.

Teaching and assessment methods
On campus teaching comprises lectures, seminars and workshops, with tutorial support. Assessment is through written assignments and some tests, presentations and project work, depending on the module. Students are encouraged to develop their transferable skills, including IT and oral presentation.

Duration and mode of study
One year full-time; two years part-time.This course is also available via distance learning.

Requirements

Applicants should normally be teachers or others working in the ELT field, with at least a second class honours degree or its equivalent from a non-UK university (GPA 3.0 or above) plus two years’ teaching experience. Those who are not native speakers of English need to have a proficiency level equivalent to GCSE Grade C, IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 575 paper/IBT90 (including a minimum of 4.0 in the TWE); Cambridge Proficiency Grade C or above. A minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent in each of the four skills is required.
