Location of University of Leicester

The MA TESOL is designed to provide a thorough grounding in both theory and practice of language teaching to those students with little previous experience of teaching English.

Teaching and assessment methods
On campus teaching is seminar-based, with tutorial support. Assessment is through written assignments and some tests, presentations and project work, depending on the module. Students are encouraged to develop their transferable skills, including IT and oral presentation.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements

Applicants should normally be preparing for work in the ELT field, with at least a second class honours degree or equivalent from a non-UK university (GPA 3.0 or above) plus evidence of commitment to teaching English as a second or foreign language (e.g. through short-term employment as a language teacher, or higher education courses in applied linguistics or language education, preferably with associated teaching practice or internship). Those who are not native speakers of English need to have a proficiency level equivalent to GCSE Grade C, IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 575 paper/IBT90 (including a minimum of 4.0 in the TWE); Cambridge Proficiency Grade C or above. A minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent in each of the four skills is required.
