Location of University of Leicester

This course aims to provide the knowledge and skills required of a professional engineer to design advanced control systems for complex dynamical systems. The course includes advanced modules on dynamical systems and control theory and also covers the latest techniques for implementing these technologies on a range of high-performance applications.

Course ModulesCore modules are:
* Matlab Programming and CAD
* Modelling and Classification of Data
* High-reliability Embedded Systems
* Robust Control
* Project

Option Modules (three from the following):
* Design of Discrete Systems
* Real-time Signal Processing
* Introduction to Biomedical Engineering
* Non-Linear Control

Option Modules (one from the following):
* Dynamics of Mechanical Systems
* Advanced Engineering Dynamics


Contents

Teaching and Assessment MethodsModules are taught using lectures and seminar sessions and are supported by a range of structured practical and laboratory work. Performance in modules is assessed by means of open and closed examination papers and a range of continuously assessed work. All MSc students are required to produce a dissertation which includes the results obtained in the individual project module.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Entry RequirementsA first or good second class Honours degree in a relevant subject or a qualification recognised by the University as equivalent.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English, and who have not lived in a country where the first language is English for at least three years immediately before the start of their course, need to satisfy the University´s English language requirement.

* From students who take IELTS (the British Council´s International English Language Testing System), we look for an overall score of 6.0 or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 6.5 or above for all other courses.
* From students who take TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), we look for 575/233/90* or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 600/250/100* for all other courses. (*Scores for paper-based/computer-based/internet-based versions of TOEFL)

As well as the internationally-known IELTS and TOEFL tests, the University also accepts many other English language qualifications.
