GlobalizationThe globalization of the world does not only mean new approaches needed in the business community but also in the field of education, and in the human resources element of all organizations - in the behaviour, growth, and learning of people. Thus comparative education and the development of schools from an international perspective are key issues for the future.
The significance of and educational need for an international Master´s programme is related to the powerful process of globalization in all countries. Therefore, educational institutes also need to focus more on international issues and comparative education in order to meet the new challenges.
The Master's Degree Programme in Educational Leadership is based on the framework laid in the European Bologna process and inspired by the Finnish experiences of the PISA studies. It is intended for students who have acquired a Bachelor´s degree in education or some related field. The programme leads to an officially recognized Master´s Degree.
The aim of the programme is to develop internationally oriented professionals and experts for the field of education and educational leadership. Learning is built on the scientific expertise and practical experiences of the participants operating in a collaborative network of universities and practitioners. The programme is carried out in collaboration with international partner universities.
Graduates of the programme can seek for jobs as experts and researchers in national and international programmes in education, development programmes and in educational administration. In order to acquire the required qualifications to act as a school leader or a principal, the students need to confirm the transferability of the Master's studies with the educational authorities in their respective countries.
The Master´s Degree Programme in Educational Leadership encompasses 120 ECTS. The programme is planned for 2 years of full-time study.
The studies include the following modules:
1. Orientation and language studies (6 ECTS)
2. Dimensions of leadership in educational organizations (9 ECTS)
3. Developing leadership culture (8 ECTS)
4. International perspectives on educational reform (10 ECTS)
5. Educational administration (9 ECTS)
6. Research methods and practicum (14 ECTS)
7. Organizational behavior (10 ECTS)
8. Advanced leadership (10 ECTS)
9. Research seminars (10 ECTS) and Master's Thesis (30 ECTS)
10.Optional studies (4 ECTS).
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

The Master’s Degree Programme in Educational Leadership (MPEL) is intended for students who have acquired a Bachelor’s degree in education or some related field. Applicants with also a relevant Master’s degree in education qualify for application. The programme encompasses 120 ETCS and leads to an officially certified Master’s Degree. The estimated intake in 2011 is 20 students with a global application process.
Application Requirements1) Bachelor’s degree (academic)/ first cycle degree, completed with good grades, in the fields of education, educational leadership or educational administration, or in another field leading to a teaching profession. Also holders of Master's degree in education are eligible provided the major is not in educational leadership, management or administration.
2) Basic knowledge of research methodology
3) Interest in or experience of the field of educational leadership (such as work
experience, studies, presentations or written documents)
4) Excellent command of English (specified below)
English Proficiency Requirement:The programme is conducted in English. All applicants who are not native speakers have to be able to demonstrate their English language proficiency at the time of the interview. The required level of English proficiency for the programme is equivalent to

When filling out the TOEFL Registration Form, please fill in University Admission Finland's Institution Code 3138 in the Score Report Recipient field. The TOEFL test score must arrive directly from the test organiser. Score slips or their copies provided by applicants are not accepted.

For the IELTS test, it usually takes 13 days for the result to be published after you have taken the test.
3) a Cambridge ESOL’s Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) or Cambridge ESOL’s Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) grade C or above (a secondary level education diploma and Bachelor’s degree studied in English, accompanied with a letter of verification from the awarding institution.5) a Bachelor’s degree certificate with the English language as a major.
Please address all language test results to the University Admissions Finland. An applicant's copy of the test score is also acceptable, as long as it is verifiable from the test organiser. Test scores sent as an attachments to an email message are not acceptable. If you are applying to more than one programme and you verify your language skills to them with the same language test, University Admissions Finland needs to receive the test result only once.
All language test results must be sent to the University Admissions Finland by the application deadline (University Admissions Finland, Snellmaninkatu 14 B, FI-00170 Helsinki, Finland). It is the applicant’s responsibility to make testing arrangements for her/himself in time. Please be prepared that it may take several weeks before the test results are published.
