The selection of students is based on several criteria. Some criteria are obligatory for the selection (bachelor's degree or equivalent, required proficiency in English), others define the applicant's suitability for the programme.
Previous StudiesSuccessful applicants must hold a bachelor's degree (180 ECTS credits) or equivalent in a relevant field. The suitability of the applicants’ previous studies will be estimated during the application process together with their overall suitability. Applicants with a degree for instance in humanities, education, social sciences or business studies are strong candidates. Also previous studies in communication subjects are an asset. However, applicants with a very different educational background can be accepted, if they are notably advantaged in the other criteria.
English Language SkillsThe language of instruction is English, therefore, a good command of English is required. Applicants must prove the required proficiency with one of the following language tests:
* TOEFL: minimum score 580 (paper based) or 92 (internet based)
* IELTS: minimum test result 6.5
* CPE or CAE: passed on level A, B or C.
A language certificate is required of all applicants, except of those who have graduated from a high school, upper secondary school or higher education in Great Britain, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand with an education fully completed in English.
As registering for and participating in a language test, and finally obtaining the results, may take a long time (even several months), please arrange to have your language test well before the application deadline.
OtherApplicants are required to present a master's thesis plan and a motivation letter. The quality of the thesis plan and the suitability of the proposed thesis are important selection criteria. In addition, applicants' motivation to study in the programme as well as their possibilities to pursue their studies in a purposeful and effective manner are estimated.
Applicants are expected to have a strong proven intercultural orientation demonstrated, for example, through previous studies, work experience, voluntary work, or other significant life experiences.
