Location of University of Leicester

To provide through the compulsory core courses a coherent framework for multidisciplinary study of the humanities (including a thorough training in research skills and IT) and, through the options and dissertation, to tailor the rest of the course to the student’s needs.

This MA course offers a full practical and theoretical foundation for independent research in the Humanities.

Duration and mode of study
One year full-time or two years part-time.

Teaching and assessment methods
Core modules are taught in the early evening to encourage part-time participation. Most teaching is done in seminar groups. Assessment is by essays, a presentation, an IT project and a dissertation.

Options

There is a large range of option modules, some designed specifically for this course, and some shared with other MAs in the College of Arts, Humanities and Law. Students may take option modules from any MA in the College provided they are qualified to undertake the work.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Entry Requirements

At least a good second-class Honours degree (normally an upper second) or its equivalent in a relevant discipline; some option modules may require a first degree in a related topic.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English, and who have not lived in a country where the first language is English for at least three years immediately before the start of their course, need to satisfy the University´s English language requirement.

* From students who take IELTS (the British Council´s International English Language Testing System), we look for an overall score of 6.0 or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 6.5 or above for all other courses.
* From students who take TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), we look for 575/233/90* or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 600/250/100* for all other courses. (*Scores for paper-based/computer-based/internet-based versions of TOEFL)

As well as the internationally-known IELTS and TOEFL tests, the University also accepts many other English language qualifications.
