This course is designed to combine an intensive introduction to multidisciplinary study of the Arts with the study of the history and practice of Medicine. Essentially it investigates how the study of the Arts might inform the practice of Medicine. This is an opportunity to open up exciting new areas of medical debate through the study of history, literature, art, film, politics, psychology, and archaeology.
You will emerge as a skilled writer and analyst of cultural discourse. Those involved directly in medical practice will become more self-aware as practitioners, and more aware of patients’ concerns. Those studying the interface between Arts and Science (e.g. historians of medicine) will have the unusual opportunity of being able to engage with the methodologies of both sets of disciplines and of developing ideas in an interdisciplinary context.
