The course is recognized by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) as providing postgraduate psychology research methods training to both full-time and part-time students. The course is suitable for students seeking advanced psychology research methods training prior to undertaking a PhD, or on a stand-alone basis prior to further psychology research, vocational training, or career advancement.
The School of Psychology has research strengths in Behavioural Neuroscience, Language, Perception, & Cognitive Processes, and in Social and Applied Psychology. Students may undertake a research project in one of these areas.

Teaching and assessment methods
All teaching is seminar based, or in one-to-one tutorial sessions, with continuous assessment in the form of essays and short projects and in the development of portfolios of assessed activities. Students are required to produce a written paper reviewing research in a topic
area, and a dissertation reporting original empirical research. The dissertation is assessed by written report and viva voce examination.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English, and who have not lived in a country where the first language is English for at least three years immediately before the start of their course, need to satisfy the University´s English language requirement.
* From students who take IELTS (the British Council´s International English Language Testing System), we look for an overall score of 6.0 or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 6.5 or above for all other courses.
* From students who take TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), we look for 575/233/90* or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 600/250/100* for all other courses. (*Scores for paper-based/computer-based/internet-based versions of TOEFL)
As well as the internationally-known IELTS and TOEFL tests, the University also accepts many other English language qualifications.
