This course aims to familiarise students with current areas of concern in Forensic and Legal Psychology and to show how psychological principles can be applied to the resolution of problems that arise in criminological and legal settings.
Course modulesCore modules:
* Psychology, the Legal System and Criminology
* Psychology of Criminal Behaviour
* Research Methods in Forensic Psychology
* Dissertation (MSc students only)
Option modules (three from the following):
* Psychology and Investigation
* Psychology and the Courtroom
* Management and Treatment of Offenders
* Forensic Linguistics
Depending on options chosen and dissertation topic named routes are available comprising:
* MSc Forensic and Legal Psychology (Judicial)
* MSc Forensic and Legal Psychology (Investigation)
* MSc Forensic and Legal Psychology (Forensic Linguistics)
Teaching and assessment methodsTeaching is through specially prepared written course materials and other directed reading. There are also annual optional short (e.g. two day) courses at Leicester. Each module is assessed separately by written
assignments and, for MSc students, a final dissertation.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English, and who have not lived in a country where the first language is English for at least three years immediately before the start of their course, need to satisfy the University´s English language requirement.
* From students who take IELTS (the British Council´s International English Language Testing System), we look for an overall score of 6.0 or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 6.5 or above for all other courses.
* From students who take TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), we look for 575/233/90* or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 600/250/100* for all other courses. (*Scores for paper-based/computer-based/internet-based versions of TOEFL)
As well as the internationally-known IELTS and TOEFL tests, the University also accepts many other English language qualifications.
