This course aims to develop a detailed knowledge of different aspects of crime, risk and managing security in organisations; to understand a range of theoretical models that explain why and how people commit crime, how to analyse and assess risk, and how to manage security; to provide a thorough grounding in theory and practice; to enable students to engage in informed debate about major issues in security and risk management; to equip students to design, conduct and critically appraise research including the ability to undertake a research project and to write a detailed dissertation on the study and findings.

Teaching and assessment methodsEach course is based on continuous assessment, comprising a written assignment of 4,000 words for each module studied. Each module lasts 12 weeks, three weeks of which are for writing the assignment. Approximately five months are allowed to prepare and complete the dissertation.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testEntry RequirementsA first or second class honours degree or an acceptable equivalent professional qualification. Special consideration is given to applications from people with relevant work experience and knowledge.
English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English, and who have not lived in a country where the first language is English for at least three years immediately before the start of their course, need to satisfy the University´s English language requirement.
* From students who take IELTS (the British Council´s International English Language Testing System), we look for an overall score of 6.0 or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 6.5 or above for all other courses.
* From students who take TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), we look for 575/233/90* or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 600/250/100* for all other courses. (*Scores for paper-based/computer-based/internet-based versions of TOEFL)
As well as the internationally-known IELTS and TOEFL tests, the University also accepts many other English language qualifications.
