There is increasing reliance upon HR professionals to be professionally accredited through the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), which is reflected strongly in advertisements for HR jobs. The full time MSc Human Resource Management provides students with the generalist grounding needed to operate as an HR professional, and equips course members to operate effectively at a strategic HR level.
In addition to developing knowledge and understanding of HR strategy and practice, skills development workshops are integrated into the course. Student-centred learning activities relating to both personal, managerial and HR-related activities form the basis for the dedicated skills development units, which enables the enhancement of a range of people management and HRspecific skills. Reflections upon personal competence and competence development further equip students with the ability to make an active contribution to business performance.
Full-time study normally means attendance for four days per week for the first 10 weeks of semester one, followed by a work placement of three weeks with an employer in January. The placement then becomes one day per week until Easter. The placements provide opportunities for students to incorporate their coursework assessments related to some of the units studied and gain valuable work experience in HR. Our Placements Office will support you in maintaining and developing business contacts, advise you of vacancies and help you prepare for interviews and other selection methods.
