The properties of materials play a fundamental role in many applications we use everyday - and for those we have yet to develop. The laws of physics on the atomic scale determine the observed macroscopic properties of materials. The aim of this master program is to present courses that builds up knowledge and skill based on this perspective. The program covers a broad range of condensed matter and materials research today, starting from atoms, molecules, clusters over nanoscience and nanotechnology all the way to realistic simulations of material properties and technical and industrial applications.
The program also includes soft matter which partly consists of syntetic materials, but also biological systems where fundamental physics principles and methods are applied to biological and living matter from biolmolecules and cells up to the living state. You can choose between two tracks: Material Physics or Biophysics.
A Master of Science Degree in Physics of Materials and Biological Systems is suitable for a professional career in different sectors of the advanced material and technological industry, in government authorities such as environmental control and inspection units as well as in academia as a researcher in the field of physics. As a well trained physicist you could also play an important role in research teams of the more applied sciences chemistry and biology.
