Location of University of Portsmouth

The MA course is run as a part time course over the period of one year commencing in March to the following February. The course is organised into a series of short seminars of varying duration from one to three days that run throughout the year, together with individual or group tutorials relating to Case Studies.

The course is designed to engage the student in current practice issues, recent legal and building legislation, and contractual issues through lectures, personal research and preparation of a case study, and conforms to the requirements set out for Part 3 accreditation by ARB/RIBA.

RIBA Part 3 Exemption

In order to register with ARB, candidates must have attended and completed the MA course and sat an additional Professional Interview, which is held in the School of Architecture in February, to coincide with the publication of the MA unit´s unconfirmed marks.

The interview is carried out in accordance with the RIBA rules and regulations governing the interview examination by Professional Examiners. Successful candidates may apply to register with ARB as qualified Architects immediately. The award "The Final Examination in Professional Practice" will be conferred by the School of Architecture.

Requirements

Professional status in surveying, architecture or civil engineering. RIBA part 1 and 2 are essential to entry. A portfolio is required.

English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 or equivalent.
