The construction industry is a dynamic environment involving unique projects that demand technical innovation and ingenuity to solve problems that inevitably arise. Technical knowledge alone is not sufficient in the modern construction industry. The ability to manage the challenges and constraints is vital for successful project completion.
Facilitating the appreciation and effective management of construction project challenges and constraints, this course is aimed at construction professionals (typically engineers, architects, quantity surveyors and other construction professionals) as well as clients who want to improve their understanding of project management and procurement issues.
Practising construction managers, who may not have formal undergraduate qualifications, but who can demonstrate relevant industrial experience, are particularly welcomed. The course is also relevant to other specialists who need to improve their understanding of the construction industry.
The MSc Construction Project Management provides you with a unique opportunity to engage with the project management body of knowledge covering the entire project life cycle from project identification, feasibility study, design, construction, operation and disposal.
Starting in September/October, this course is offered in full-time (one calendar year) or part-time (two calendar years) mode to maximise convenience of access. It is divided into three stages, each three contained within an academic semester. The first two stages are generally through formal tuition, with stage three covering independent research in an academic and/or industrial setting.
The course provides an opportunity to broaden and extend understanding of construction industry issues not normally covered in undergraduate studies. You will be encouraged to build upon established fundamental civil/construction engineering and project management principles and to confidently apply them to a range of complex construction project problems with due regard to related social, economic, environmental and resource issues.
The MSc is awarded for 180 credits from core and optional units as shown below.
