About the course
2 years full time
Recognised by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Health Professions Council, this two year full-time course will give you the necessary training to gain your professional qualification for a career in speech and language therapy.
You'll develop the knowledge and skills needed to assess and manage a range of communication and swallowing disorders. Your skills will be put into practice through a series of clinical placements throughout the course.

Our MMedSci course provides the necessary training to enter a career as a Speech and Language Therapist.
Course content
The course follows six main themes:Communication, Participation and Society, Research Methods, Biomedical Sciences, Key Clinical Skills, and Clinical Placements.
Communication
You'll study linguistics, psychology and how this relates to speech and language pathology.
Participation and Society
You'll gain an understanding of how the study of sociology and social and health psychology impact on speech and language therapy.
Research
You'll develop valuable research skills that are essential to providing evidence-based health care.
Biomedical Sciences
You'll gain an in-depth understanding of anatomy, physiology, audiology and neurology, and how to link this medical knowledge to speech and language pathology.
Key Clinical Skills and Clinical Practice
You'll develop your clinical skills and professional competence to enable you to work with a range of clients with communication impairments.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

First or 2.1 honours degree including a large component of study in a relevant field, such as;

* Linguistics
* Biomedical Science
Candidates with degrees in non-cognate fields will be considered if they can demonstrate a record of working in an area relevant to speech and language therapy (eg as an Speeach annd Language Therapy Assistant).
All short-listed applicants are interviewed and will be expected to demonstrate some degree of work experience relevant to speech and language therapy.
