Programme Description

This course is suitable for engineers or recent graduates.

It deepens your knowledge and experience in design engineering and improves your technical and problem solving skills. You develop your understanding of current best practice in the theory and application of leading edge technologies, processes and systems.

It is suitable for you if you want to improve your career potential as a technical specialist or manager in industrial and manufacturing companies. It can also help towards a career teaching engineering.

You learn the latest techniques such as stress analysis and use the latest computer software including CADCAM, especially in computer-aided design, analysis and manufacture.

You study two management modules, with five core technical modules and one optional module.

The optional modules include

* advanced vibration and acoustics
* engineering for sustainability
* equipment engineering and design.

The international product development module involves working in multidisciplinary teams to develop a new product within a global market. This develops much sought after advanced technical and business skills. The project provides a supported environment to develop your ability in an area of your interest.

If you are a new graduate, this course gives you the knowledge and skills to begin a career as a technical specialist or manager. If you are already employed in engineering, it improves you career potential and can lead to roles with greater responsibility.

It can also help towards a career teaching engineering.

Requirements

UK students

Normally one from

* an honours degree (2.2 or above) in a science or engineering subject
* suitable professional qualifications in an engineering field
* a degree in any discipline plus at least one year of relevant experience
* a diploma in a technological area plus at least three years of relevant experience.

Overseas students

You need an English language score of IELTS 6.0 or more or a TOEFL 213 or more, plus

India

* a first class BE in an relevant discipline, or a good second class BE with a strong performance in mechanical and manufacturing subjects

China

* a four year Bachelors degree in an relevant discipline, with an overall average of at least 80 per cent or equivalent

Other countries

* a good honours degree or equivalent in an relevant subject
