This course is about national and international policy and practice for educating and caring for children from birth to six years old. An introductory module introduces a range of approaches to the observation of young children as learners and explores underpinning models of learning.
A second module focuses on children playing and learning across a range of early years settings and includes a critical examination of current curriculum models.
The course emphasises young children as learners in families, communities and early years settings. It considers research into the development of children´s social, emotional, physical and cognitive knowledge, understanding and skills. It also includes consideration of the key area of dispositions for learning.
A primary aim of the course is to provide a collaborative learning context, within which early years practitioners and managers can reflect on and develop their professional practice. You will have opportunity to make an in-depth examination of current debates relating to policy and practice in early years care and education.
