Globalisation impacts on how we understand and manage crime. You examine how crime and criminal justice responses have developed across different parts of the world, and how this might affect the delivery of criminal justice in England and Wales.

You explore the significant growth in crimes that cross the globe including

* drugs trafficking
* terrorism
* organised immigration crime, such as people trafficking
* firearms
* sex offences against adults and children
* high-tech crimes

The course is suitable if you

* have a degree in criminology or an associated social science
* are considering a career in criminal justice agencies such as the police, the probation and prison services or other community justice organisations such as the security services
* have an interest in how international perspectives influence alternative approaches to responding to crime

You examine how national and international criminal justice systems apply theoretical knowledge and understanding to how they operate.

You also develop and apply criminological research skills, which improves your ability to gather, store, analyse and interpret information - leading to your dissertation. Your dissertation allows you to research an area of interest and use many of the skills that support professional practice in criminal justice.

We deliver teaching on campus in seminar groups, supported by online learning. The teaching team includes tutors who have professional experience in criminal justice and who are involved in research.

We have strong links with regional criminal justice agencies and use visiting practitioners and managers to make sure we reflect the latest thinking and best practice.
