These days, accounting is about so much more than crunching numbers. Accountancy at corporate level is complex, and brings into a play a number of expert skills. In this course, you'll develop those specific skills, as well as enhancing your generic skills, all of which are required in today's competitive business world.

The Accounting and Finance group also received the highest possible recognition from the UK's Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) for the quality of its teaching.

Skills

Through this course, you'll learn and develop a combination of accounting, finance and other business skills. These include specific accounting techniques and policies relating to corporate finance, tax, auditing, corporate governance and statistics. You'll learn to use relevant IT systems, and acquire relevant knowledge of law, economics and the business environment. The generic skills of time management, project management, communication, collection and management of data, and IT skills will all serve you well in the future, whatever your eventual field of work.

Career Prospects

As Edinburgh's top university for Graduate Employability (HESA 2010) and one of the top in the UK for Graduate Prospects (The Independent and The Times University Guides for 2009), we can offer you a valuable head-start in your chosen career.
A postdegree in Accounting and Finance can open the door to a wide range of careers, including:

* trainee accounting roles leading to professional qualification. (These can be pursued within an accounting firm, a commercial organisation or a public sector body.)
* general management opportunities
