Effective human resource management is seen as being increasingly important in achieving business success and positively influencing the performance and wellbeing of employees. Our MSc Human Resource Management degree will enable you to make a significant contribution to people management practice and develop a deep understanding of the changing role of HRM in the development and implementation of employment policies and procedures. You will learn the specialist skills and expertise you need to be effective and influential in a human resources management role at both strategic and operational levels and acquire an in-depth understanding of key policy areas such as recruitment and selection, training and development, employee relations and performance management.
An invaluable three weeks of work experience will give you the opportunity to apply your learning and gain vital industry contacts.
Aimed at managers already working in the field of people management, as well as those who see their careers developing in this direction, the course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and provides you with the knowledge indicators required for membership to membership of the CIPD.
This masters course is located within the School of Management, part of our Business School. With an innovative network of academics and HRM practitioners employed in both business and research, we can provide a unique blend of expertise in human resource management, well-being and leadership practice. You'll have access to the people involved in leading edge of policy and theoretical developments in this ever-changing profession.
Skills
During this course, you'll develop valuable skills in people management, including the key areas of employee relations, employee development and employee resourcing. You will graduate with an advanced practical and theoretical understanding of all areas of HRM. Development of research abilities is also emphasised, and you'll learn techniques and strategies that will enable you to critically reflect on your workplace experiences, and create your own ongoing programme of professional development.

Based over one year (full-time) the course will involve lectures, tutorials and independent study. A part-time study option is also available. It is possible to exit the course with a Postgraduate Diploma in HRM and Graduate CIPD Membership.

People & Organisational Development, HR Strategy & Finance, Employment Law.
Trimester 2
Employee Resourcing, Learning and Development, Labour Relations, Research Skills and Professional Development (including 20 day work placement).
Trimester 3
Dissertation
On completion of the course you will have achieved the knowledge indicators required to allow you to apply for membership of the CIPD.
