A key concept is that innovation (processes) and technological change are driven by both technological and social forces. In addition, the significance of the international context is constantly becoming clearer. By combining technical knowledge with that from the social sciences, the Master's degree program has a highly multidisciplinary nature. It also has a strong international focus.
Part of your time will be devoted to compulsory courses on innovation and technology in the fields of economics, sociology and law. Next to that, you will work on a major multidisciplinary project and you will choose specializations in technical and social sciences subjects. Your program will be completed with an international internship and a Master's project.
The program conveys scientific theories, tools and techniques to manage innovations both within and across companies. You will learn how to apply the knowledge that you gain in carrying out research into innovation management and in industrial applications. You will also learn ways to analyze the current innovative performance of a company, how to explain it in terms of quality, cost and time, and how to improve this performance by re-engineering innovation processes. You will experience what it means to carry out research yourself, to gain new insights and to apply the acquired knowledge in the many projects that form part of this Master's program.

You will complete the program with a thesis project. The project is a full-semester research project, after which you will graduate with the international Master of Science (MSc) degree and the Dutch diploma of "ingenieur (ir.)". You will conduct your thesis project at the ECIS Center for Innovation Studies. ECIS is one of Europe's leading research institutions in this area, and will thus guarantee a top-level environment in which you conduct your project.
All final projects are conducted in close cooperation with our industrial partners and will offer you the opportunity to obtain further in-depth knowledge of best practices in industry. Some of the projects may be conducted in full or in part at the location of our industrial partners, or at one of our partner universities abroad. You will define the subject of your thesis yourself, in close collaboration with your personal coach, who will also be supervising your research. Projects include a wide variety of subjects, and will require you to specialize further in one of the five key research areas that contribute to the program.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country. Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test. More information
