The PG Certificate in Advanced Academic Studies consists of two different pathways. The modules within the two pathways are largely interchangeable and you can do virtually any combination you choose, although the core module for each pathway differs. You must apply for the correct pathway as this will determine which award you receive on completion of your Certificate. Both awards progress on to Diploma in Advanced Academic Studies.
PG Certificate in Advance Academic Studies (Academic Practice)
The key target audience for this programme comprises new and relatively inexperienced staff. Probationary lecturers are required to complete 30 credits of the programme as part of their probationary requirements.
The programme is open to all academic or related staff within the University of Strathclyde and also to staff from other institutions involved in higher education. Applicants must normally hold an initial qualification at degree level from a university or other higher education institution and/or experience, which is deemed by the Course Director to be equivalent. Applicants who hold other qualifications deemed acceptable within the context of higher education will be considered. Participants should note that the Teaching, Learning & Assessment within the Disciplines module carries a teaching requirement and may not be suitable if you do not have formal teaching duties.
The modular programme aims :
* to provide a CPD framework for self-directed professional development for academics
* to promote the concept of reflection on theory and practice contextualised to different disciplinary needs
* to enable participants to experience and understand different teaching and learning styles and processes
* to help participants identify appropriate ways of improving the learning experience of their students
* to provide a structure for personal and professional planning that will meet the needs of course participants engaged in different aspects of academic practice
The key target audience for this programme is Research Staff, particularly those in the early stages of their career.
