Train to become a journalist with an intensive, practical course that combines traditional methods and modern technology. It meets the demands of an increasingly multimedia industry, so you'll learn how to research and create content across a range of channels including print, TV, radio and online.

We train you to become an accomplished journalist who can make sense of fast moving situations and report a story accurately, with honesty and integrity. You'll learn through practical experience, both in our news rooms and on an industry placement, and we also support you in getting your work published and broadcast.

You'll benefit from studying in a dynamic capital city that is home to many creative industries. You'll make use of Edinburgh as a political, economic and cultural centre to provide a rich source of stories and settings for your work.

Skills

You will learn a wide range of practical skills in print, broadcast and online media by taking full advantage of our industry standard newsrooms and studios. You will also gain analytical and critical skills, as well as good writing, communication, team work and research skills.

Career Prospects

As Edinburgh's top university for Graduate Employability (HESA 2010) and one of the top in the UK for Graduate Prospects (The Independent and The Times University Guides for 2009), we can offer you a valuable head-start in your chosen career.
We have a high success rate for placing our graduates in jobs. We offer a two-week industry placement as part of the course which can be particularly valuable for making contacts and can often lead to an offer of employment. Placements are a vital opportunity to gain industry experience and show editors, and potential employers, what you can do.
Possible careers include:

* reporter
* editor
* press officer
* feature writer
* commentator.
