The dynamic and challenging world of advertising is fuelled by bright minds and creative thinkers.
This Masters course - the first and currently only one of its kind in Scotland - is designed to stretch your persuasive skills in visual and verbal communication. You will be working to real agency briefs, meeting key industry figures and creating advertising from day one.
This is a hands-on intensive course, designed in close collaboration with the Scottish Institute of Practitioners in Advertising. There are masterclasses by senior advertising professionals and a two week work placement to give you valuable experience of agency life.
You will develop your creative skills and judgement, explore the theories behind advertising and make contacts that can help you break into this highly creative, exciting industry.
Skills
With its creative focus, the course gives you the chance to develop your conceptual skills while learning the best way to present your ideas.
You'll work both individually and in art director/copywriter partnerships to create advertising across a wide range of media - including TV, radio, viral, digital, print, posters and ambient.
Your critical evaluation skills will also be developed as you explore the theories behind successful campaigns.
Career Prospects
As Edinburgh's top university for Graduate Employability (HESA 2010) and one of the top in the UK for Graduate Prospects (The Independent and The Times University Guides for 2009), we can offer you a valuable head-start in your chosen career.
Competition is fierce in the advertising industry. While a qualification is no guarantee of employment, this Masters course can open doors to a career in the business.
Creative directors in Scotland and other senior industry professionals take a keen interest in the course, and are always on the look-out for new talent. Your agency placement is your chance to shine. Your employer will see your creative skills in action and this can lead to a permanent job, or, at the very least, many more creative ideas for your portfolio.
Past students have found work in the industry in the areas of:
* copywriting
* art-direction
* account service
