The MSc in Electrical Technology for Sustainable and Renewable Energy Systems is designed to provide instruction and training in the most recent developments in the equipment and systems used to interface and control renewable and sustainable energy systems.
This knowledge is essential both for an engineer wanting to work in research and development in electrical engineering for renewable energy systems in industry and for an engineer planning a research career in the field.
The course will give you an advanced and comprehensive coverage of the specialist engineering skills required by an engineer working in electrical technology for renewable and sustainable energy systems.
The programme provides an excellent basis for those engineers wishing to update their knowledge in this area or those students/engineers who wish to go on to do research or to study for a PhD degree and finally for those first degree students wishing to enhance their training leading to a Masters degree.
During the autumn and spring semesters, you will complete 120-credits´ worth of taught modules. This will include the following core modules:

* Power Networks with project
* Control 2
* Induction Motor Drives with Laboratory
* Power Quality and EMC with Laboratory
* Special Drives
* Hydrogen Economy
In addition, you will be able to choose 30-credits´ worth of modules from the following list:
* Conservation and Recycling of Materials
* Fuel Technology
* Renewable Energy Technology 1
* Combined Heat and Power
* Energy Management
* Renewable Energy Technology 2

After completing the taught components of the course, you will undertake a major piece of advanced independent research under the supervision of a specialist in your chosen area.
We will provide you with advice and guidance while you select and refine your area of study, and offer close supervision and support as you complete your research and your MSc.
Course Structure
The MSc in Electrical Technology for Sustainable and Renewable Energy Systems is taught on a full-time basis over 1 year.
This course is operated on a modular basis and consists of two semesters during which you will follow a series of taught modules (worth 120 credits), followed by a 60-credit research project undertaken during the summer period.
You will be taught using the latest advances in teaching methods and electronic resources, as well as small-group and individual tuition.
Tutors provide feedback on assignments. Our objective is to help you develop the confidence to work as a professional academic, at ease with the conventions of the discipline, and ready to tackle any area of research in Electronic Technology for Sustainable and Renewable Energy Systems.
In the early stages of your project dissertation, your supervisor will read through and comment on your draft work. The project dissertation itself comprises a significant piece of your own research.
