Location of Edinburgh Napier University

Mechatronics has seen a massive growth recently. It is used in every day objects like CD players, cameras and washing machines as well as in cutting edge robotic technology such as interplanetary explorers.
This course aims to provide you with an advanced understanding of and expertise in the mechatronics skills that are in high demand from employers. You will learn to design products and processes effectively with a focus on quality, functionality, speed and reliability. You will learn to apply your engineering skills to practical engineering situations in automation and product design using the most up to date industry standard equipment and software.

Skills

You will learn to understand mathematical methods and broad engineering science concepts, then apply these to the design and development of a microprocessor-based product or process. You will also gain advanced skills in design techniques, components and systems, computer aided engineering and modelling techniques.

Career Prospects

As Edinburgh's top university for Graduate Employability (HESA 2010) and one of the top in the UK for Graduate Prospects (The Independent and The Times University Guides for 2009), we can offer you a valuable head-start in your chosen career.
Due to a skills shortage in this area of engineering, you can expect to be offered a wide choice of employment prospects, in areas such as:

* project management
* automation systems
* control system design
* process design
* product design
* embedded systems design.
