Property and construction play a key role in the structure of our society and economy. The industry requires managers who can meet the growing challenges of market forces and new technologies. This course will give you all the skills you need to succeed in your chosen career in this field.
You'll learn through a well balanced blend of theory and practice. As well as gaining a solid foundation in construction management and procurement strategy, you will learn about the wider economic and legal frameworks of construction. The course covers technological theory and practice linked heavily to industry so you will graduate ready to progress into a role in property development immediately.
You will gain an industry-recognised qualification: this course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Skills

You will gain a great number of valuable management skills such as communication, planning and organisation, problem solving and team working skills, as well as the specialist knowledge of how these apply to the construction industry.

Contents

This course is studied full-time over one year and is split up into three trimesters. You will learn by a variety of teaching methods including lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratory sessions and through independent study.

Trimester 1

Strategic Management (Built Environment & Engineering), Law & Administration, Building Economics.
Successful completion will qualify you for a Postgraduate Certificate.

Trimester 2

Production Management, Procurement Strategy, Property Development.
Successful completion will qualify you for a Postgraduate Diploma.

Trimester 3

MSc Project, an independent and focused piece of industry relevant research.
On successful completion you will be awarded a masters degree.

Requirements

As the course is targeted at candidates with prior experience in a property or construction discipline, consideration will be given to a candidate's prior qualifications and experience when assessing applications for places.

The normal minimum entry requirement is:

a) A recognised degree or other qualification at equivalent level.
b) A lower level qualification together with appropriate experience.
c) Qualifications, with experience as appropriate, equivalent to the above - these will be considered on an individual basis.

English Language Requirements

If English is not your first language, you´ll need to provide evidence that you can read, write, speak and understand English satisfactorily. For most courses, in additional to satisfying the standard entry requirements, we normally require international students (check) to demonstrate their English ability through an English language test, usually IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).

Courses require an IELTS score of 6.0, which is equivalent to ToEFL 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 79-80 (internet-based).
