Developments in transport continue to shape the world we live in and influence the economic and social well-being of communities. The transport of people and goods provides a serious challenge to society and there is a continuing need for transport planners and transportation engineers to meet it. We will provide you with the specialist skills required to enter your engineering career.
You'll gain a thorough knowledge of the nature of transportation and techniques for analysing transport problems. You will learn how transport operations are planned, designed, constructed and maintained as well as how to develop effective transport strategies. This course is suitable for you if you have an engineering qualification, or a social science or business related degree with an interest in transport planning and engineering. If you are already working in the industry you can take advantage of our part time and distance learning study options, giving you the opportunity to expand your professional capabilities.
You'll benefit from our strong industry links and gain understanding through practically orientated teaching, have direct contact with practitioners and build your own industry contacts. This course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), and is approved by the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Institute of Highway Engineers and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) (subject to first degree) leading to Chartered Engineer Status.
Skills
You'll learn the skills that will enable you to engage fully with transport-related issues. You'll also become adept in analysing transport problems, evaluating transport policy and creating innovative transport solutions, whilst also building a thorough knowledge of transport management, operations, practices and related computing software.

This course is studied full-time over one year. You will learn by a variety of teaching methods including lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratory sessions and through independent study. The course is split up into three trimesters.
