The course enables pharmacists to acquire and apply knowledge of drug action in patient care and to develop the skills needed to promote the effective use of medicines in hospitals and in primary care.
Students study the scientific and clinical factors that influence treatment with medicines and the delivery of pharmaceutical care. The advanced training which the course offers in the practice of clinical pharmacy enables graduates to judge new treatments critically and also provide pharmaceutical care.
The courses are provided on both a full-time and a part-time basis and there are multiple exit points after completion of 60 credits (Pg Certificate), 120 credits (Pg Diploma), or 180 credits (MSc). Credits are acquired by examination and coursework submission for Pg Cert/Dip and by project submission/oral for award of MSc.
The MSc course is 24 months long (part time)and 12 months long (full time) while the postgraduate diploma is 9 months long (full time)and 18 months long (part time). The Diploma can be converted into an MSc by completion of a research project.
Course Content
embraces the following:
* communicating and problem identification in clinical settings;
* clinical information sources;
* common laboratory tests and their relevance to monitoring patients receiving drug therapy;
* principles and practice of therapeutics using clinical pharmacy case problems;
* pharmaceutical care and management of disease states, focusing on the contribution of the pharmacist;
* oral communication and problem-solving skills in clinical pharmacy;
* the pharmacological, pathological and physiological background for therapeutic strategies in the management of common disease states;
* clinical, laboratory and organisational methods for monitoring and assessing drug therapy;
* drug delivery and dosage selection;
* experience of pharmaceutical care within a chosen speciality of the clinical presentation and management of disease;
* delivery of specialised clinical pharmacy services;
* the application of research methods to new development and a practical project.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

* a first or second class honours degree in pharmacy, preferably,
* at least one year of relevant practical experience as a pharmacist.
In addition to academic qualifications, you must also be able to show that you have a sufficient grasp of English. If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your proficiency before you can begin the course, and you are strongly advised to take the IELTS or the TOEFL test examination. The University's general entry requirements are IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 600 (including the Test of Written English), TOEFL 250 (computer based test) and TOEFL 100 (internet based test).
