Course length
Part-time: MA: 24 months, PGDip: 21 months, PGCert: 9 months
This part-time programme comprises seven modules of study amounting to 180 level 7 credits. Its modular structure will allow you to design a programme of work according to your particular area of interest and the qualification you would like to achieve (PG Certificate, PG Diploma or MA). For the MA, the final stage of the second year will involve a research project.
PG Certificate stage
This first year of study comprises two core modules:
Psychology for Supervision in Coaching and Mentoring explores a wide range of psychological ideas and approaches that provide a theoretical underpinning to the supervision process. The philosophy of the module is that supervision is a multifaceted and multi-focused process, the overarching and long-term purpose of which is the continuing development of coaches and mentors. The module will provide opportunities to discuss the ideas of individual development from the perspectives of the main domains of psychology and adult development. As a result of this process, you will be able to create and defend your own model of supervision.
Supervision Practice in Coaching and Mentoring is a double module providing the developmental support and theoretical underpinning necessary for professional maturity as a supervisor for coaches and/or mentors. You will have the opportunity to expand your professional knowledge and understanding of supervision particularly in the organisational context of coaching. The nature of the module is experiential. It involves active experimentation with new ideas and techniques; debates about the models and theories of supervision; and sharing personal experiences of participating in designed activities and group supervision work.
Students who successfully complete these two modules may leave the programme with the Postgraduate Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring (60 credits).
PG Diploma and MA stage of the programme
At the end of the first year you continue your study with an Independent Study module, in which you select and investigate a topic relevant to coaching supervision and your chosen context of practice.
In the first part of the second year for the Postgraduate Diploma you will study two additional modules selected from a range of optional and core modules, including, for example:
* Psychological Perspectives on the Self
* Coaching and Mentoring in Organisations
* Positive Psychology
* Understanding Coaching Research.
It is possible to exit the programme at this stage and to be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits).
In the next stage of the second year you will conduct a research project in the area of coaching supervision to receive the MA in Coaching and Mentoring Supervision (180 credits).
