The purpose of this course is to offer students an opportunity to study in-depth organizations and the management of work.
This programme of study is provided by a Department able to offer research led teaching excellence. In studying these core elements, participants will engage with contemporary ideas and arguments in industrial sociology, occupational psychology and other human sciences about the many recent and ongoing changes that are found in organizations. There will also be options for students to specialize in international HRM or employment law.
The Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in Human Resource Management is a full-time, 12 month course for those who aim to pursue careers in the field of human resource management. Students initially register for the taught Postgraduate Diploma stage (nine months) and transfer to the dissertation based MSc stage (three months) on achieving a satisfactory performance. The programme is fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and provides routes from student membership to graduate membership.
The Diploma stage of the course is taught within the framework of the University's two semester teaching year which runs from late September to the end of May. This involves a series of taught modules, seminars, speeches by distinguished HR professionals, and a business skills development programme. All students undertake a curriculum based on the accumulation of no fewer than 120 credits to be derived from the following compulsory and optional taught modules to qualify for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (see below). Students who meet the eligibility requirements on the Postgraduate Diploma are allowed to proceed to the Masters stage.

The Research Report
During the second semester, students produce a management research report based on analysing a human resources issue in an organisation. Students require access to an organisation to carry out this research and are encouraged to use their own contacts to gain access to arrange this although assistance will be given by the Department. Students can also gain valuable insight to contemporary Human Resource Management practice in a real workplace whilst working on this project.
Masters
Postgraduate Diploma/Masters Degree Option
The Postgraduate Diploma begins in late September and is normally completed in the May diet of examinations. Students who satisy the Board of Examiners may progress to the Masters Degree for which they must submit a 15,000 word dissertation on a human resource management issue, normally at the end of August.
Assessment
The course modules are assessed by various methods which include essays, individual and group projects and final examinations. The examinations are generally held in January and April/May. Formal approval to proceed to the MSc stage is given by the end of June. The MSc stage requires the completion of the Dissertation.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Register Now!The minimum required qualification for entry is at least a second class Honours degree in a cognate subject, such as an arts, social science or business-related discipline, from a UK University or equivalent from an EU or overseas university. Work experience is desirable, but not required.
For students whose first language is not English, achievement of an IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 600/250/100 with a TWE score of 4.5, is required.
