This programme aims to train you as a scientific researcher; it combines observation with theory as you study the physics of the sun, stars, and the universe as a whole.
As part of the national research school for astronomy, and in close collaboration with the We offer the only academic astrophysical education in the Netherlands in close cooperation with the Netherlands Institute for Space Research. The cooperation offers students direct access to them who design and build instruments for astronomical research in the field of Astrophysics & Space Research. The programme combines observation and theory to study the physics of the sun, the stars, and the universe as a whole. Data from the best observing instruments on the ground and in space will be available for you as a student. In the first year of this programme you will follow courses in fundamental astronomy/astrophysics, and choose specialised optional courses, which will prepare you for the second year of the programme, which is dedicated to your research project, and culminates in the writing of your Master's thesis. Graduates of the programme are prepared to continue PhD studies in the Netherlands or abroad (50-70%). You will also be well prepared for the demands of the job market at large.
