The MSc in Advanced Residential Child Care has been developed within the Glasgow School of Social Work as one of the objectives of the Centre For Excellence For Looked After Children in Soctlad (CELCIS) . The course is unique in the British Isles in offering a Masters level award specifically in residential child care. Students can expect to contribute to professional leadership, practice development and research and evaluation in their own agencies and beyond.
The course is recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a relevant award for registered managers in residential child care.
Assessment is through a practice-based portfolio. Students need sufficient access to residential child care settings through which they might evidence practice requirements. However, these requirements are broad enough to allow those in external management or training positions to do so.
The course is of modular design and requires attendance at university for five days per single module. Students are expected to complete eight taught modules over a sixteen-month period. A further eight months is allotted for completion of a practice-based dissertation. Students can therefore complete the Masters award in two years, although most take longer to do so.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testEntry requirements are normally a first degree (minimum 360 SCOTCAT credit points) or qualifications and experience deemed equivalent. Students with professional or academic qualifications other than social work will be considered.
English Language Requirements
In addition to academic qualifications, you must also be able to show that you have a sufficient grasp of English. If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your proficiency before you can begin the course, and you are strongly advised to take the IELTS or the TOEFL test examination. The University's general entry requirements are IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 600 (including the Test of Written English), TOEFL 250 (computer based test) and TOEFL 100 (internet based test).
