The Advanced Aerospace Materials Engineering MSc by Research degree is an industrially relevant programme, developed at a time of great change within the aerospace industry.
The move from aluminium airframes to carbon fibre reinforced polymers, the continuous drive to improve aeroengine efficiency and drive down cost, and the movement of the supply chain up the skills ladder are all driving dramatic change and creating demand for new skills, which this programme will provide.
Developed in co-ordination with major international aerospace companies, as a graduate of this programme, you will be qualified for key positions as a material scientist, engineer, manager or consultant within the aerospace sector. The course is also a launch-pad into an accelerated PhD in UK academia or study at one of our international partner institutions.
The programme
One third taught, two thirds research project, the programme is divided into two semesters.
The taught modules in semester one are made up of compulsory and optional units and include:
* Concepts of Metals and Ceramics
* Mechanical Properties of Metals and Ceramics
* Composites, Principles and Practice
* Deformation Processing
* Engineering Alloys
* Engineering Ceramics and Glasses
* Joining Materials
In semester two, you will complete an eight-month supervised research project.
The research project may be undertaken at the Schools of Mechanical Aerospace and Civil Engineering or Materials at The University of Manchester, or at one of our prestigious partner institutions in China, India, Singapore and USA, or even in industry.
