Location of The University of Manchester

This three year, 180 credit, part-time course begins with a two year counsellor training course accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy since 1992. The third year of the course provides students with the opportunity to complete a research project focusing upon an area of study of the student's choice.

Course aims We follow the large body of research that directs us to the Client/Customer relationships as a major vehicle for change. The orientation of the course is integrative. The Egan three-stage model is offered as a framework for the integration of understanding and practice from a range of theoretical approaches.


Contents

Special features All successful applicants will be required to apply to the Criminal Records Bureau for an enhanced level check. Your offer of a place will be subject to CRB check. Module details The course comprises six taught modules and one supervised research project.

The first two years involve attendance at 60 weekly sessions, a summer school, four weekend blocks and engagement in 150 practice sessions on placement, monthly supervision and personal therapy.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Academic entry qualification overview:

Applicants are assessed on their personal and intellectual suitability for counselling training and study at masters level. Requirements include:

* a relevant degree
* a certificate in counselling

Evidence of considerable experience in the field of counselling, relevant life experience and/or relevant professional training/experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree qualification. Assessment will take place through application form, references and interview.
