These courses are designed for experienced dental practitioners who wish to further their knowledge in endodontics, the branch of dentistry that deals with diseases of the tooth root, dental pulp and surrounding tissues. Additional course information DissertationThe aim of this module is to offer research training in the identification, formulation and implementation of a specific research project.
Teaching and learning methods are designed to encourage the student to take responsibility for their own learning and to integrate work with informal educational activities.
Examples of dissertations submitted include:
* The use of microcomputed tomography (Micro CT) in the assessment of obturation techniques
* A comparative study of three periapical radiographic techniques for endodontic working length estimation
* Microleakage of posts luted with resin based materials
* An in vitro evaluation of the effectiveness of different concentrations of sodium hydrochlorite in the elimination of enterococcus faecalis
* Apical preparation: The effect of different sizes and tapers upon the quality of the apical seal - an in vitro study
Module details For the MSc, there are 4 components
* Research Methods Component: The aim is to equip students with skills related to design, execution and interpretation of clinical and clinically-related research
* Biostatistics Component: The aim is to equip students with skills related to data collection, simple analysis and interpretation of clinical and clinically-related research
* Specialist Clinical Component: The aim of this component is to give students an understanding of the scientific basis of endodontics, with particular emphasis on current theories relevant to the diagnosis, treatment planning and clinical management of adult patients
* Research Component: The aims of this component are to train students in the identification, formulation and implementation of a specific research project and to give students experience of working independently. Recent projects include studies related to restoration of the root filled tooth, imaging procedures, effects of irrigating solutions on root dentine and intracanal flora
For the PGDip, there are 3 components:
* Research Methods: The aim is to equip students with skills related to design, execution and interpretation of clinical and clinically-related research
* Biostatistics: The aim is to equip students with skills related to data collection, simple analysis and interpretation of clinical and clinically-related research

Open days The course will be hosting virtual online open days throughout the year, enabling registered users to ask questions about the course and have a live interactive chat with the Course Director.

Academic entry qualification overview:
Applicants will be required to provide evidence of their primary dental qualification from a recognised institution.
English language: For those students whose first language is not English, a minimum IELTS of 6.5 with no less than 6 in the written component; TOEFL 575 paper-based, 230 computer-based or 90 iBT. This certification must be no more than 12 months old.
