This master is a comprehensive specialisation that equips you with the knowledge and skills to critically assess scientific debates and social problems relating to Latin America and the Caribbean.
The master programme consists of a series of required courses and electives. Specific themes and issues covered in the courses include social and political history, culture and identity, conflict, trauma and post-conflict reconstruction, ethnicity and social movements, literature, film and media. You can focus on a social science profile(anthropology and comparative sociology) or a literature and cultural studies profile by choosing one of the two tracks: 1. Conflict, multiculturalism, identity and socio political transformation, or 2. Literature and culture. You are encouraged to pursue original and creative combinations of these two main orientations. An essential component of the programme is field or desk research, including a thorough methodological preparation, preferably in Latin America or the Caribbean. This research will form the basis of the master thesis. You are free to choose a research topic within the overall interdisciplinary and thematic domain of the programme.
