The MA in Art History and Visual Studies offers a wide range of courses for the five pathways from a large team of art historians. All members of staff are research active and all supervise research students for the MPhil and PhD degrees.
The pathways for the MA in Art History draw on expertise that stretches from the ancient world to the present day, and they contain a range of course units and methodologies that reflect the variety and focus of our research interests. The MA programme is supported by major museum collections within the University, the City and the region.
Module details Etruscan Italy; Pompeii; The Stained Glass of York Minster; Serving Princes: The Arts and Medici Power in Sixteenth - Century Ducal Florence; Making Believe: Art and Belief Systems in Early Modern Italy c.1600-c.1700; Imperialism's Visual Economies: Defining Art and Ways of Seeing in the British Empire; Art and Ethnography; Architecture and Modernity; Landscape and Englishness; The Surrealist Image; and National Culture and the Idea of Public Art; The Body in/and Representation.
