Contents

The most successful teaching method across the UK for Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Art and Environmental Planning and Design has been this combination of design studio and classroom. The Landscape Architecture course engages in this method of teaching by organising its professional programmes through lectures, seminars, studio and site visits as a critical combination for learning.
As a studio-based design course, Landscape Architecture is taught through core seminars and lectures in landscape theory, landscape ecology, history and advanced design studio. These modules are accompanied by study i.e. in professional practice, landscape construction, landscape assessment and environmental design. The course promotes thinking in terms of place and identity, physical and phenomenal relationships at scales from site to region, social and ecological systems and informs the design process in terms of function, context, meaning and form.

Requirements

Admission requirements are subject to the normal policies and procedures of the Writtle College Postgraduate School. Candidates from the United Kingdom higher education sector will normally hold a first honours degree at class 2 division or better in landscape design related subjects, e.g. architecture and landscape and garden design in addition to related disciplines such as fine art, philosophy and interior design. First honours degrees from approved landscape architecture or landscape and garden design applying for the DipLA or Masters in Landscape Architecture will hold a class 2 or better.

Prospective students with a first honours degree with a lower classification, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma and who have the appropriate experience in landscape and garden design, landscape management, architecture, design or other closely related field will be considered for admission. A portfolio of work experience, essay, and interview will be necessary for the admissions committee.

International candidates will have their qualifications and experience reviewed by the Writtle College Postgraduate School and the course director in order to establish equivalence for the requirements listed above and guided by the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Non-EU students will have their course assessed by UK NARC.

Prospective international students whose first language is not English will be expected to have achieved a qualification in English as Foreign Language or its equivalent in line with current Writtle College Postgraduate School policy.
