The one-year Masters of Research (MRes) degree is an innovative route to starting out on a research career and every year about 20 students enrol on our MRes degree. Students taking the MRes are provided with the opportunity to experience research projects over a broad range of disciplines and laboratory environments. The programme comprises: two laboratory-based research projects, a tutorial and workshop module, research seminars, 'Experimental Design and Statistics' unit, and training in personal and transferable skills. This programme involves rotations in laboratories throughout the Faculty of Life Sciences.

Our MRes degree allows students to gain research experience and professional skills, sometimes in a different area to their first degree, before deciding on a future career in industry or academic research.
The MRes course allows students to:

Module details You require 180 credits to complete the programme. 135 credits are research project based and 45 credits are from taught courses.

Research components of the course: * Research Placement 1 (60 credits)

Academic entry qualification overview: A First or Upper Second class honours degree, or the overseas equivalent, in a relevant science subject.
English language:
For MRes applicants whose first language is not English an IELTS score of 7.0, TOEFL 600 (paper based), TOEFL 250 (computer based) or TOEFL 100 (internet based) is required as a minimum.
