Dissertation (15 - 20,000 words)

During the final three months of the degree you will produce a dissertation. This is your opportunity to explore a particular topic that has been covered during the programme in far greater depth, undertaken under the supervision of an appointed personal tutor. This provides an opportunity to pursue an in-depth, specialist study within the field of historic garden and cultural landscape conservation of an agreed selected subject from an area related to the scope of the course.

Coursework

You will produce essays, written reports and case studies with notes from study visits which develop an understanding of garden and landscape history and conservation philosophy. All coursework is designed to develop the knowledge and transferable skills that enable the student to interpret the landscape heritage. These include practical techniques including survey and recording procedures, technical and field skills, archival research and documentation, interpretation of historical evidence and coherent presentation of results.
