The MSc International Construction Management (ICM) programme is offered through a high-quality flexible distance learning experience using workfiles and text books complemented by web-based activities and support. Study is undertaken to individually agreed schedules ranging from 15 months to five years.

The programme reflects the breadth of management issues facing today’s international construction manager and seeks to develop creative decision-making and problem-solving skills critical for success in a competitive business environment.

A key element of the programme is learning through reflection on your practice. Emphasis is placed on applying what you learn to the industry and on comparing and contrasting issues with your peers from around the world. This approach is reinforced by the opportunity to attend residentials at the University of Bath, University of Hong Kong or the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Vancouver.

The ICM programme is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Graduates of the programme are eligible to apply to become corporate members of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM) and the Australian Institute of Building (AIB). In addition, graduates with suitable experience may be exempt from all examinations for the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) corporate membership. Applications to the CIOB should be made on an individual basis on completion of the programme.

Contents

The following options are available for study of the International Construction Management programme:

* MSc
* Postgraduate Diploma
* Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules relevant to your training needs

The full MSc programme comprises six core modules, two option modules an integrative module and a dissertation. The Postgraduate Diploma covers the same taught elements as the MSC course, but does not require a dissertation to be submitted. Both of these study options have compulsory residential days built into the course.

Continuing Professional Development
CPD modules are suitable if you have identified a specific area of construction management in which you would like to increase your knowledge and skills. The CPD modules may also provide the opportunity to transfer to the MSc/Postgraduate Diploma at a later stage. Students studying CPD modules are registered for one year. If you choose this route, then we would recommend that you apply to transfer after completion of a maximum of two CPD modules. Students studying CPD modules are not required to sit examinations, although this can be arranged at the request of the student.

A description of the programme layout and assessment methods are set out on the Programme Structure page. A full breakdown of the fees for each study route is given on the Programme Fees page. If you are not sure which route might be best suited to your requirements, please contact the Programme Administrator who will be pleased to discuss the issue and help you to make a decision.
