As part of UEL ’s Teacher Training Programmes, we are pleased to support the Overseas Trained Teacher route into teaching. This route is open to all teachers who qualified to teach in another country and would like to gain Qualified Teachers Status (QTS) in England. The Programme has been very successful with schools taking advantage of supporting staff in their career development.
Assessment
As part of the Programme, a training plan may be drawn up or teachers follow an assessment only route. Teachers produce their own portfolios to provide evidence against the standards. Once this is complete, there is a final assessment and a recommendation to the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) for QTS. Those who have been teaching longer than two years may also apply to be assessed against Induction Standards and, thus, be exempt from the Induction Year as a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT).
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testTo get you started, it is important that you understand the following point;
* You must be employed in a school that can offer you support in the Programme
* You will generally be teaching the subject in which you obtained your degree and the degree must be equivalent to UK degree standard
* You must have obtained the equivalent of GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English
* For overseas qualifications, verify the equivalence through the National Recognition Information Centre for the UK (UK NARIC)
If you are interested in reading more about this Programme, please refer to the TDA website. You should discuss your wishes with the Professional Tutor at your school who will then contact the TDA and UEL to arrange an interview
