The MSc in Modern Japanese Studies is a twelve month masters programme that provides students with a combination of courses about Japan, mainly the social sciences, an intensive language programme and a research methods course. It culminates with a dissertation submitted in mid September. Native speakers of Japanese or those with native speaker competence are also encourages to apply for a place on the programme.

Programme specifications are 'the definitive publicly available information on the aims, intended learning outcomes and expected learner achievements of programmes of study'. All taught masters programmes available in the UK are described in programme specifications that the institutions must make available for all potential and existing students.

Indeed it should be possible to compare the competing strengths of the programmes at different universities by examining their programme specifications. However applicants may feel that they also need to consider the additional information given about the programmes that they will find in the FAQs and programme description to gain a rounded view of what the programmes offer.

You can find the programme specification of the MSc which includes the language courses MSc in Modern Japanese Studies (Mode A) and the version of the MSc with no language course MSc in Modern Japanese Studies (Mode B).
